Gujarat Cottage and Rural Industries Policy 2016
The Gujarat government has announced this first-ever ‘Cottage and Rural Industries Policy-2016’ with emphasis on building an ecosystem to boost the industry and to provide more employment opportunities to the artisans engaged in traditional crafts. With the increasing demand for compliance with environmental standards, the State Government would strive to develop and promote environment friendly arts and crafts that would utilize available natural resources in a sustainable manner and use environmental friendly production processes.
The policy interventions are directed towards inducing a culture of self-sustenance and self – reliance among the people associated with the sector. The focus is on enhancing supplementary employment by providing the artisans an enabling and conducive environment and adequate support in areas like skill development, design development, marketing, access to credit, infrastructure development and stimulating entrepreneurship.
