State Water Policy of Goa: Draft
The government has proposed setting up of an independent water regulatory authority and amendments to the Goa Ground Water Regulation Act, 2002 and Goa Irrigation Act, 1973 to manage and regulate utilisation of water resources in the state. In an earnest attempt to conserve, protect and regulate the most precious natural resource, the state government put the draft of the state water policy in the public domain for suggestions and recommendations. The draft policy has stressed on the need for strong regulatory mechanisms and proposed numerous systems towards judicious and monitored supply and utilisation of the available water resources. Groundwater being the most essential component for supply of potable water, the draft policy has laid emphasis and sought amendments to the Goa Ground Water Regulation Act, 2002 for regulation of groundwater resources and Goa Irrigation Act, 1973 for regulation of surface water resources. The draft policy has also proposed drafting of new acts to plan, manage and regulate utilisation of water resources.
