In an interim ruling on August 4, 2004, the World Trade Organisation's Dispute Settlement Body has reportedly held the eu sugar subsidies illegal. The complainants, Australia, Brazil and Thailand, had argued that the eu exceeded the levels it was supposed to subsidise. The final version of the ruling will be circulated to the parties in September.
