EGS vs DPAP
The problem with the employment guarantee scheme (egs) in Ahmednagar gets compounded by the fact that Ahmednagar is also covered under the central government's Drought Prone Areas Programme (dpap). Discussion with district officials and villagers shows egs is not a favourite. " egs involves minutely detailed plans and lot of paper work. Since there is no separate administrative set up for egs, this is an additional responsibility. Today most officials view egs work more as a headache,' admits an Ahmednagar officer.
Down To Earth found out that most ngos also prefer working on dpap rather than help the state government implement egs. That could also be because under egs there is no role
