A brighter future: how tackling climate change can deliver better living standards and shared prosperity
The Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) has published a report and illustrated guide demonstrating how tackling climate change can also help address some of the economic and social challenges facing the UK. The report’s authors argue that, while addressing climate change is important in its own right, taking action can also help to address some of the greatest challenges facing the UK. In particular, the report argues that the government can achieve the following: raise living standards, tackle fuel poverty and reduce emissions by reforming energy and transport markets and increasing energy efficiency; address capacity constraints in energy and transport by creating smarter and more decentralised systems and encouraging new sources of investment; help create well-paid and decent jobs in every region by developing a low-carbon industrial strategy and providing the conditions for investment in low-carbon infrastructure.
