Error n trial
The world's largest hiv vaccine trial in Thailand has turned out to be an expensive flop. The multi-million dollar trial involves tests on 16,000 Thai citizens and is the last hurdle before the vaccine can be registered and administered freely.
The trial is a collaborative effort between the us Military hiv Research Program, the Royal Thai Army Medical Department and the us National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. The Doctors Without Borders group commented that it appeared everyone, save the Thai and us governments, thought it was a waste of money.
The vaccine is two vaccines in one, and one of the vaccines tested has already been proven to be totally ineffective,' said Thailand coordinator Paul Cawthorne. Thailand's Ministry of Health has combined this with another component alvac, which it claims will boost the effectiveness of the first.
