Sailing high

Sailing high INDIA could be riding high as one of the largest wind-based power generating countries in the world in the next couple of years. Twenty-one industrial houses proposed to install windmill power projects which would collectively generate 1557.53 mw of power. Availing of the monetary concessions given by the Central government for non-conventional energy generation methods, the business houses have taken the initiative to start wind- based energy generation not only for captive consumption but also for selling power to state electricity boards.

Some of these industries have tied up with foreign wind power companies to set up the proposed units. The Bangur group would be setting up 25 mw plants in Gujarat with technical support provided by Cannon Power Co, us, while Abban Lloyds Offshore Co would be setting up a 180 mw wind-based power plant at Kornorin in Tamil Nadu in technical collaboration with us-based Krenitec Wind Power Co. The Reliance Group has also proposed a 120 mw wind power plant in Gujarat.
