Voice activated computer
British researchers have developed a technique that would enable computers to recognise the voice of users and work accordingly. Andrew Bangham of the School of Information Systems at the University of East Anglia says the system focuses on a specific area of interest and thus maintains the high resolution of the image it is viewing. A technique called filtering helps the computers to simplify images so that the computer can recognise the object. The system is also fitted with a microphone and a camera. The camera watches the lip movements associated with a word. It then matches the voice with the shape of the mouth. This technique enables the computer to recognise the voice. The researchers say they will be able to use the technique to develop a computer system that can identify a user, who can operate it by voice commands delivered in a conversational tone.
