Traffic jam

Surfers browsing the Internet via America Online are being told to slow down because the company cannot cope up with the demand. In a written apology to its eight million subscribers, America Online has explained the difficulty its subscribers are experiencing while trying to get through. The company blames the online traffic jam on a sudden surge in usage and has asked customers to cut down their Net surfing time while more modems and computers are installed to handle the overload. In December, the company attracted many new customers when it started offering unlimited Internet access for US$19.95 a month. The customers used to pay an hourly connection earlier. As a result of the change, users have more than doubled their time online ( New Scientist , Vol 153, No 2067).
