Mask-covered faces are now a common sight on Kathmandu roads. This is a result of the fleet of vehicles emitting thick black smoke which not only irritate the eyes, but also cause several respiratory diseases. "Every second patient visiting an ENT (ear, nose and throat) specialist is directly or indirectly suffering from pollution induced IN problem," said ENT specialist Som Nath Aryal. People are mostly affected by asthma and allergic rhinitis - running nose, continuous sneezing and difficulty in nasal breathing.
