Nikon recently unveiled the first digital camera in Japan that adds spoken and hand-written captions to photographs. The new camera, about the size of a mobile phone, has a microphone for recording live commentary. Up to 17 minutes of audio information can be stored in it. The sound clips can be played alongside the picture after the camera has been connected to a computer or TV. When an image appears on the camera's 2.5-inch LCD (liquid crystal display) screen, captions can be added to the picture with an electronic pen. The unnamed camera has a four megabyte memory chip that allows users to record up to 125 images ( Nikon Newsletter , July '96).
