Gender and biodiversity management in the Greater Himalayas: towards equitable mountain development
This study aims to enhance understanding of the dynamic relationship among biodiversity conservation and management, gender, and livelihoods in the greater Himalayan region. Based on a review of literature and field-based case studies on the ground, it provides important insights on the different ways in which women and men in the Himalayas conserve and restore biodiversity. In particular, it analyses the critical role of women in conserving and managing rangelands, forests, and agroecosystems. This knowledge has broad implications for mountain development in the region.
