State level vulnerability assessment and adaptation strategies: a case study of Orissa
This study aimed to improve the ability of vulnerable communities in the coastal districts of Odisha to cope with and adapt to adverse impacts of climate change and improve their disaster preparedness. The study: Assessed the impacts and vulnerabilities due to floods caused by extreme rain, cyclones and sea level rise in the short and medium term. Developed a priority matrix of adaptation options along with an assessment of capacity for adaptation in the short- to medium-term time scale. Identified viable strategies for adaptation, considering the need for scaling up options in conjunction with wider development activities in the state. Consultations with stakeholders were held at several levels for both determination of vulnerability and devising adaptation strategies.
