Fighting cancer

industries should work towards helping cancer patients as they are the one who are responsible for the rising cases of cancer amongst industrial workers. A decision to this effect was taken during a recently-held workshop organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry ( cii) in New Delhi.

R S Pannu, president of Global Cancer Concern India ( gcci ), a non governmental organisation, emphasised that as industries cannot be closed down, hence they should take adequate steps to minimise or eradicate carcinogenic by-products. The companies should also be answerable to the dying people and provide them with the care they require. "The humiliating and painful death that the cancer patients are subjected to can be improved if the industry, government, medical professionals, gcci and the media join hands,' Pannu said. "Industries involved in drug manufacturing should lower prices to make them more accessible to the cancer patients,' said A Raja, minister of state for health and welfare.
