DAMAGE CONTROL
The Madras High Court has issued notice to the Union and the state government on a petition for stopping construction of a multi-storeyed building in the Santhome area near Adyar creek in Chennai. Environment groups say that one of the main reasons for the accelerated rate of deterioration of the sensitive environment of the Adyar Estuary is the result of a nearby construction of a multi-storeyed building on a site adjoining the estuary. Dumping of construction debris from the construction site has added to the pollution.
