SANE RULING

The Supreme Court has ordered the removal of "all hoarding by roadsides' in the capital which it said were hazardous and a disturbance to traffic. In its earlier court order, the court had directed the civic agencies to "identify and remove all hoardings which are on road-sides and which are hazardous and a disturbance to safe traffic movement.' During the hearing the judges expressed concern about vehicular pollution and its effect on the environment. The court expressed anguish at the apathy of the Union and the state pollution control boards in checking pollution. It suggested setting up a national authority to monitor the functioning of pollution control boards.
