Garbage spark off
An American company has put up a proposal to the West Bengal government for setting up a power plant in Calcutta with a capacity to generate upto 200 mw of electricity daily from garbage and municipal wastes. Calcutta city accumulates 3,000 tonnes of garbage daily and this could provide for a very high rate of power generation, making the project commercially viable. The promoters of the project are offering to finance the entire project through their own overseas sources instead of burdening the state government. They have also assured completion of the project's construction within one year of the signing of agreements.
