The Gujarat high court has directed Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) to set up an expert committee to look into ways of recharging water bodies. The court has also directed AUDA to give details about permissions granted for development around the lakes in the city. While suggesting the names of experts to be included in the committee, the court stated that the main task of this body will be to suggest methods of rain water harvesting and ways through which lakes and ponds can be recharged. The committee shall also examine whether buildings are illegally erected on lakes or ponds and file a report.
