A division bench of the Supreme Court has directed the Central Zoo Authority to notify the apex court about the steps taken to preserve the tiger population in various zoos and reserve forests. "It is extremely distressing to know that tigers are being killed in government zoos under the very nose of the government officials,' the apex court bench observed. The state government of Andhra Pradesh has also submitted a detailed report to the Supreme Court about the recent killing of a tigress in a Hyderabad zoo.
