ORDER ON TAJ

The Supreme Court has directed "The Commission Management Board' of the Uttar Pradeh government headed by its chief secretary to appear before it and explain why the court's order relating to the creation of a green belt around Taj Mahal has not been implemented. The two-judge bench was responding to a public interest petition filed by M C Mehta seeking the court's intervention to save the Taj from environmental pollution. The other members of the board required to be present are the finance secretary, forest secretary and the commissioner of Agra. In order to secure implementation of its order, the court had appointed a two-member committee of scientists from the Central Pollution Control Board, New Delhi.
