Generators of Trouble

The green bench of the Calcutta high court has directed the West Bengal Pollution Control Board to frame guidelines on the use of generators throughout the state. The bench, comprising justice S B Sinha and justice R K Mitra, also directed the board to file a report on the status of noise and air pollution caused by the large number of generators used in Calcutta and its suburbs. The order of the bench was in response to a letter to the acting chief justice by Amit Kumar Sau, a resident of Nadia, complaining that a generator located in a factory adjacent to his house was causing high levels of air and noise pollution.
