Use or abuse
The magic of antibiotics is lost because of their inappropriate use by humans resulting from lack of awareness. There are instances of patients taking antibiotics to cure viral diseases that cannot be cured by the drugs. Moreover, patients often do not complete the required course of the medicine, thereby, making the pathogens resistant against the antibiotics.
According to experts, antibiotic resistance can be avoided to a great extent by judicial use of the drugs and by taking the medicines as prescribed. Immunisation and washing hands frequently are among the few ways to keep pathogens of infectious diseases at bay. It is also important to find new drugs and vaccines, experts say.
