Endosulfan: draft risk management evaluation
At the fourth meeting of the POPRC in October 2008 the European Community and its Member States being parties to the Stockholm Convention have proposed endosulfan to be listed in Annex A, B or C of the Convention (UNEP/POPS/POPRC.4/14). At its 5th meeting in October 2009 the POPRC reviewed and adopted a revised draft risk profile on endosulfan. The POPRC decided, taking into account that a lack of full scientific certainty should not prevent a proposal from proceeding, that endosulfan is likely, as a result of its long-range environmental transport, to lead to significant adverse human health and environmental effects such that global action is warranted. The Committee decided to develop for endosulfan a risk management evaluation document that includes an analysis of possible control measures for consideration at its next meeting and final recommendation to the COP for its listing in the Annexes of the Convention.
