LAMBASTED!
The wildlife department of the Sri Lankan government has come in for sharp criticism. Biosphere , the bulletin of the Environmental Foundation, which has on its panel several distinguished environmentalists, has accused the department of negligence in monitoring the Handapanagala elephant herd, considered to be a priceless heritage. Environmentalists wanted that the drive to shift the herd to Yala be called off on account of less water there. However, the elephants were shifted and to date there has been no information of the condition of these animals.
