Green cabs
london's taxis are soon going to become ecofriendly. On a trial basis, catalytic converters have been fitted into 12 cabs of London, said Whitty, the country's environment and transport minister. This will contribute towards reducing pollution up to an estimated 25 per cent. Monitoring of the cabs will be done for the next few months to find out their effectiveness. The trial is being conducted for cabs manufactured before 1997. Newer cabs already have catalytic converters. If the trial is successful, catalytic converters will be installed in other cabs plying in London and in other major cities such as Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds and Bradford that suffer the most from air pollution problems.
