Cyclone warning system

the Indian Space Research Organisation (isro) is developing an indigenous radar that will send out early cyclone warnings. The Doppler Weather Radar (dwr) will improve existing capabilities for early cyclone warnings especially in the east coast of the country, officials at the isro Telemetry Tracking Command Network (istrac) said. The technology will then be transferred to the Bharat Heavy Electronics Limited (bhel) for further production. Later, it will be used by the Indian Meterological Department (imd) for advance detection of cyclones. At present there are 12 conventional early cyclone warning radars installed on the coasts.

dwr s will be able to provide the exact intensity of a developing cyclone as it approaches land. These radars will also provide digital signal analysis and graphic utilities that help in the real time display of development of cyclones. It provides precise advance warnings enhancing the lead time needed for saving lives and property.
