Green drive
Every bit counts. Taking note of this adage, Bangladesh has launched a people-oriented drive to encourage its 130 million citizens to plant one tree each year. The drive tries to speed up plans to put at least 20 per cent of the country under forests. While inaugurating the programme, the Bangladesh Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia said that the country should have a 20 per cent forest cover by 2015 in order to be able to offset the impact of global warming and shield it from frequent storms coming from the Bay of Bengal.
