A new tax structure for private cars. Currently, the rates are 2 per cent on vehicles that cost up to Rs 4 lakh and 4 per cent on cars that cost more than Rs 4 lakh. Under the new structure, impose duty of 5 per cent on cars priced up to Rs 5 lakh, 10 per cent for cars that cost from Rs 5-10 lakh, 15 per cent for cars of Rs 10-15 lakh and 20 per cent for cars above Rs 20 lakh
Increase road tax and registration tax of cars
Explore possibilities of collecting congestion tax from vehicles except public transport entering congested areas inside the city. Details of a pilot project on congestion tax for one or two localities in the city are being worked out
A detailed proposal should be drawn on parking pricing and management for both private and commercial vehicles. It should be categorized separately for commercial, residential and public places.
The parking policy should reflect availability of space and its premium for parking rates, so that the policy can become a proxy instrument for management of traffic and congestion in the city
