In what will be a major boost to harnessing non-conventional energy, several mini hydel projects on natural streams are on the anvil in Andhra Pradesh. The Non-Conventional Energy Development Corporation (nedcap) of the state has already set up a technical committee to work out the details. The committee has identified 100 potential places where hydel energy generation can be undertaken. nedcap chairperson Katta Narayanaiah said that 13 applications from prospective industrialists had been received so far. The corporation would clear the setting up of the units after ensuring that there are no objections to the project. nedcap will collect a licence fee of Rs 1,00,000 for each megawatt of power generated.
