WATER POLLUTION

The Narayani river of Nepal is being polluted by factories located near its banks. This has endangered dolphins, fish, crocodiles and other flora and fauna of the river. According to the fisherfolk, the most polluting factories in this region are Bhrikuti Paper and Pulp Industries, Gorkha Brewery Limited and Sumi Distillery. Bhagwat Chaudhary, chief of the fishery development department of Bhairahawa, says that the river fish have shown symptoms of a fatal fish disease. The general manager of Bhrikuti accepts that his factory is polluting the river because there is no treatment plant to filter the pollutants.
