Pollution survey

Bangladesh has launched a survey to find the effects of arsenic pollution in underground water in rural areas. The survey to be conducted in around 200 villages will be funded by the United Nations Development Programme. Called "Emergency Arsenic Mitigation Programme' the survey will cover 22 of the country's 64 districts and will be completed in three months. It is reported that experts from Dhaka's community hospital will conduct arsenic tests on water from 36,000 wells in the villages and will also examine some 400,000 villagers to ascertain possible arsenic symptoms.
