A CASE OF HUNGER

An imminent food crisis threatens to envelop thousands of Sri Lankans in the island's war-torn Jaffna peninsula in the north, as food supplies to the region have been suspeIJded. The suspension is the result of the refusal of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to escort government vessels after 1 of its ships hit a mine. The ICRC had been taking care of 6 ships which transported a monthly average of 10,000 tonnes of supplies provided by the government for Jaffna.
