Bony bonanza
Artificial, "but better than the real thing"- is how the new artificial bone material is being described. Developed by William Bonfield of the Queen Mary and Westfield College, London, the material is called Hapex (The Eastern Pharmacist, Vol XXXVIII, No 455).
Initially, Hapex will be used to make small replacement bones like an implant for the middle ear of patients whose hearing is impaired. The ultimate aim is to use it for stronger and longer- lasting artificial hip joints. It will also replace the bones of people whose faces have been deformed by accidents.
