Listing patients
a confidential database of people being treated for hiv and their medical regimes will be set up in Australia later this year, to address concerns that thousands of hiv patients are not on medication.
One of the first in the world, the database will record the number of patients who are on the latest drugs, what those are and whether they cause any side effects. The information will be coded and it will help health policy makers develop campaigns to ensure that patients are informed about the latest available hiv/aids drugs. Health researchers will also be able to access the data for their study.
The scheme has been initiated by the sub-committee of the Australian National Council on aids and Related Diseases, Federal Government's peak advisor on hiv/aids.
