Jolted by the court
The Supreme Court order gave the go-ahead to the Lower Subansiri Project on following conditions
• Legal status of the 42 hectare of the Tale valley wildlife sanctuary submerged by the dam to remain unchanged
• Reserve forest area that forms the catchments of the Lower Subansiri Project be declared a sanctuary or a national park
• The extent of this protected area to be decided by the state in consultation with the Union ministry of environment and forests
• The National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) shall provide funds for any relocation and resettlement inside the park
• nhpc shall arrange for the supply of fuelwood
• There will be no construction of dam upstream of the Subansiri river in future
• All infrastructure, staff and equipment will be provided by the forest department
• The entire costs
