Under phase II of GAP, Uluberia town generating 10.85 million litres per day (mld) sewage with biological oxygen demand level (BOD) of 43.07 milligrammes per litre (mg/l) was not included while Jangipur generating 0.37 mld sewage with BOD level of 34 mg/l was covered
Between Palta (the source of Kolkata's drinking water) and Uluberia town, bod levels are considerably much higher than the permissible limits
A Rs 17.93 lakh testing laboratory constructed at a sewage treatment plant remains unutilised till date. Instead, outside agencies have been hired for the testing.
The total coliform count level is 10 times beyond the permissible limit at Dakshineshwar, a popular bathing site of the pilgrims.
