Green disposal

greenpeace
has proposed environment-friendly methods for waste management in the Mediterranean. In a recently released report, it has suggested an infrastructure for selective collection, classification, recycling and composting of waste. The report was recently given to the Maltese minister of foreign affairs and environment. It is a case study on the island of Mallorca whose economy like Malta's depends heavily on tourism for its income. Waste generation and pollution are major problems of Malta. The government is planning to dispose of hazardous hospital and industrial waste by incineration and land-filling. Incinerating waste results in emission of toxic fumes and contaminated ash. Dumping waste in landfills is also unsafe as poisonous chemicals from the waste leach through the rocks and contaminate water sources.
