GANDHINAGAR: The Gujarat government wants the price of Bt cotton seed to be regulated and put under its control despite opposition to it from the country's top seed producing companies. Intervening in a debate in the state assembly, state agriculture minister Dilip Sanghani blamed the Centre for "supporting the seed companies", who are part of the National Seed Association of India (NSAI), the apex organization representing the Indian seed industry with more than 250 companies as its members.

GANDHINAGAR: The state government is now preparing a final draft plan to install water meters in the state capital. The move came after the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation (GMC) asked the state government to install water meters in the government quarters. Sources said that a study by Asian Development Bank has revealed that the state capital's water per capita water consumption is the highest among 20 major cities in the country.
AHMEDABAD: The city has over 30 lakh vehicles, which include 20 lakh two-wheelers. This is 22 per cent of the total vehicles registered in Gujarat, the state assembly on Thursday was informed by urban development minister Nitin Patel in his reply to Naroda MLA Mayaben Kodnani's question. The minister said that to ease off congestion on the city roads, the government has taken measures like Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) and Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Metro project.
GANDHINAGAR: In order to regulate the water management sector, the Gujarat government on Wednesday announced its decision to establish Gujarat Water Regulatory Authority (GWRA). A government notification, said the powers of the authority include fixing and regulating "the water tariff system and charges for surface and sub-surface water used for domestic, agriculture, industrial and other purposes".

Four peahens and a peacock were found dead on the border of the fields in Merwada village near Shyamlaji in Sabarkantha district on Tuesday. Two peahens were also found struggling for life and were shifted to a veterinary clinic in Shyamlaji, officials said. According to range forest officer P K Desai, two birds, including the peacock, were found in the well, while carcasses of three peahens were found in the field.

The extracted phytochemicals from tulsi are now being turned into a drug at a Gujarat facility – Gujarat Liqui Pharmacaps Limited (GLPL) in Padra on the outskirts of Vadodara city.The drug will be India's indigenous defence against all kinds of radiation and even prove to be a boon for cancer patients to alleviate the side effects of radiotherapy treatment.
Ahmedabad: The pastoralist communities of Banni, through their respective gram panchayats, have opposed the move of the state forest department to ban pastoral rights of the community staying in the areas. At least 15 of the 19 gram panchayats have passed a resolution against the state government and have sent the same to the senior officials in the state government.
