Water quality monitoring of a central Himalayan river, river Kosi was done for a period of one year. The study was done to ascertain the suitability of its water for potable supplies and to generate benchmark data for the management of the river ecosystem, as the river has a great bearing on the socio-agricultural life of the region.
Underground drinking water samples at six different sites of hand pump at J.P. Nagar were collected and analysed for thirteen different water quality parameters following standard methods and procedures. Water quality index (WQI) has been calculated for all the sites using the statistical data of all thirteen parameters and WHO drinking water standards.
Tannery waste disposal problem leads to environmental disharmony, which makes it one of the major industrial pollution facing the country. The tannery industries, release a lot of wastes in the form of liquid (effluent) and solid (sludge). Biological sludge is one of the wastes, which has been utilized for recycling in this research work.
To obtain an assessment of bacteriological quality of drinking water of the district of Lakhimpur, Assam as many as 168 drinking water samples were collected from different sources of the district and analysed. During analysis it was found that 58.2% samples have coliform MPN more than 10 and 40% have faecal contamination.
Human head hair concentration of zinc from 175 subjects (92 male and 83 female) aged between 11 to 51 year in Mainpuri region has been studied by Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer. The mean concentration of zinc have been found significantly higher in female than in male subjects.
