Centre for more stress on rural health
Minister of State for Defence M.M. Pallam Raju said that a rural health programme is being taken up on a large-scale under the National Rural Health Mission and Rajiv Arogya Sri programme. Inaugurating the three-day health camp being organised at the local JNTU College of Engineering campus on Sunday, the minister said that the government at the Centre was keen on extending medical facilities to people in rural areas on par with urban areas.

District Collector Navin Mittal on Wednesday expressed displeasure over non-completion of first phase of Indiramma Housing Scheme. He said 41,606 houses were constructed of the 66,886 sanctioned in the first phase.

Effluents kill 40 quintal fish in Adilabad
Chemical effluents released from factories that came up on the outskirts of Adilabad town into the tanks of the surrounding villages caused the death of 40 quintals of fish in the last two days. Villagers and fishermen of Chanda (T) village of Adilabad staged a protest on Wednesday along with dead fish brought in gunny bags alleging negligence on the part of officials concerned in taking action against managements of private factories that released harmful effluents.

State for petro chemical corridor
State government is contemplating to set up a petro chemical corridor in the coastal area shortly. Minister for major industries J. Geeta Reddy announced this while responding to a query from local MLA Routhu Surya Prakasa Rao during question hour in the State Legislative Assembly. In a statement issued by the legislator here on Wednesday, a coastal petro chemical corridor spread over about 175 km distance, connecting Kakinada and Visakhapatnam at a cost of Rs 60,000 crores, would be coming up.

The Karimnagar Municipal Corporation has embarked on construction of a new filter bed at an estimated cost of Rs 1.30 crore near the Lower Manair Dam (LMD) in the town. The new water purification mechanism is being installed as part of a comprehensive plan to meet the drinking water requirements of the rapidly expanding town with a futuristic vision, sources said. Karimnagar mayor D. Shankar formally launched the construction works here on Monday.

Rs 3,600cr estimated for supply network
The city water board has prepared a detailed project report to strengthen the supply network on the outskirts of the city at an estimated cost of Rs 3,600 crore. SCB streets to get cleaner
Streets will get cleaner and be free of stench due to open urination in Secunderabad Cantonment limits soon as the defence ministry has approved a financial sanction for construction of modern public toilets in the area. The project, estimated to cost over Rs 60 lakh, will have private investment and will generate funds via advertisements. In the first phase, 20 modern pay-and-use public conveniences would be constructed on Built, Operate and Transfer (BOT) basis.
