More imports to meet LPG shortage: Deora
Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Mulri Deora has said a pro-active approach had been adopted to address the shortage of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). In a letter to Chief Ministers on LPG shortage in certain parts of the country, Mr. Deora said as an urgent measure, an additional 52,000 metric tonnes of LPG would be imported in March 2008 to tide over the crisis. He sought the cooperation of the Chief Ministers in curbing diversion of domestic LPG stocks.

The Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute will evolve mitigation strategies for marine fisheries and develop an ecosystem-based fisheries management technique for sustaining fishery resources, according to its director N.G.K. Pillai. Speaking to The Hindu here on Tuesday, he said the mitigation plan would highlight the impact of climate change on fish species and the shift in the distribution of commercially important varieties like oil sardine that had started migrating in large numbers from the Kerala coast to the northern areas in search of cooler water.

74 irrigation projects listed under Jalayagnam' in Andhra Pradesh

U.P. Govt. defends Ganga expressway project
The Mayawati government on Tuesday defended the Rs.40,000-crore Ballia to Noida Ganga expressway project despite doubts expressed by the Opposition members, who alleged that the scheme was a cover up for a land scam. Dismissing the allegations made by the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Samajwadi Party as baseless, State Parliamentary Affairs Minister Lalji Verma said in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly that the 1,047-km-long Ganga expressway would provide fillip to the development of Uttar Pradesh.
