Industrial units prefer Paradip to Haldia
HALDIA, 19 JAN: As the navigability of the Hooghly river near Haldia Dock Complex (HDC) continues to be a matter of concern to the dock authorities, several industrial units, particularly power houses and steel plants in West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand who were dependent on Haldia for importing coal, have now opted for Paradip to meet their requirements, at least partially.

Dilemma over Buxa pattas
The state forest department is facing a problem to relocate the villages situated within the Buxa Tiger Reserve after villagers started getting pattas of forest land under the Forest Rights Act. The forest department had initiated a plan to make the Buxa Tiger Reserve located in Alipurduar subdivision of Jalpaiguri district human settlement free after human-animal conflict went up alarmingly.

City sees sharp rise in noise pollution
Noise pollution has become a major problem for city dwellers, with over 13000 cases of unnecessary honking registered by the city police in one year. A senior police officer said, the number of cases of unnecessary honking almost doubled in 2009 as compared to 2008.
