In the backdrop of opposition from the villagers, environmentalist and scientist Prof Manoj Borkar, at a meeting held on Sunday, explained to them the merits and de-merits of the Salim Ali bird sanctuary being declared as Critical Wildlife Habitat (CWH). Waste management at the Sonsodo dump yard went haywire on Tuesday as truck loads of garbage were dumped right at the entrance to the site for want of space inside the yard. In another interesting development, the Margao Municipal Council has said the much-talked about waste treatment plant at Sonsodo to be set up by Fomento will become a reality only in June 2011.

PANJIM: Finally, the State government has decided to act tough to contain traffic jams and dust pollution caused by mining trucks especially in Sanguem and Quepem. At a meeting with mining stake holders, the government proposed couple of measures to reduce dust pollution caused by transportation of ore through Sanguem and Quepem.
