PANJIM: In a major development, Karnataka Chief Conservator of Forest (KCCF) has directed his Goa counterpart to revoke clearance licences of 19 mines, which are within 10kms radius of wildlife sanctuaries.

PANJIM: Aggressive mining, most of which is in violation of environmental norms, has turned almost all water bodies in the mining belt murky, forcing the people to drink non potable water. Environmentalist Ramesh Gawas has prepared a detailed study of these water bodies which will be presented to the Justice Shah Commission Saturday.
The eight teams of Shah Commission, probing illegal mining in Goa, have completed almost 75 per cent of the work relating to inspection of mines, officials said adding that the work would be completed this weekend.
