The Neyveli Thermal Power Station-I Expansion has been chosen for the silver shield of the National Environment Management Award among coal/lignite-based thermal power stations for 2012-13. The plant, with two units, can generate 420 MW of power (4,20,000 units per hour). The first unit of this Power Station was synchronized in October 2002 and the second unit in July 2003.
