Forest department officials today deliberated on ways to curb ivory smuggling in Singhbhum. The meeting, attended by principal chief conservator of forests (wildlife) A.K. Singh at the forest guesthouse in Mango, primarily discussed elephant poaching in the Singhbhum Elephant Project area and on how to curb the menace.
Jamshedpur, Feb. 23: Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has set its priorities for the next financial year. SCCI president Umesh Kauntia released an 11-point programme today aimed at benefiting trade and industry. Kauntia, also the vice-president of Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said efforts were on to set up a trade centre in the steel city.
JAMSHEDPUR/RANCHI, Feb. 23: A widespread forest fire, which started late on Saturday night inside and along the fringes of the Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary, has destroyed large tracts of grasslands and engulfed several trees inside the core area of the forest. Traffic movement came to a halt today when residents of Kandra and Gamharia in Seraikela-Kharsawan district blocked the road for over four hours, protesting against the rising pollution level because of sponge-iron units. The protesters squatted on the road blocking it with their cycles and tractors and refused to budge till their demands were met.

For the second consecutive year the district has bagged the Nirmal Gram Award for successful implementation of Total Sanitation Campaign. Successfully adhering to basic sanitation and cleanliness guidelines of the government, 13 panchayats of East Singhbhum district have received this award.
