Earlier, the city was hoping to break the record set by Khemaru village in Dungarpur, Rajasthan, where 300 volunteers had planted 6.11 lakh saplings in a single day.

There is however a sliver lining for the Sabarmati riverfront where the Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (SRFDCL) has woven in a paver block cycle track. The track would be the closest to the river followed by the pedestrian pathway.
