Guwahati: The death toll in the Assam floods Thursday rose to 100 even as the waters started to recede in most of the 27 affected districts except Dhemaji. However, the rising water level of the Jiadhal river submerged several villages in the morning. The surging waters have also affected parts of National Highway 52 in the district. An estimated population of 22 lakh have been affected in the worst ever flood in recent years causing large-scale devastation in 2809 villages in 27 of the 28 districts of the state.

Guwahati: Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on Monday announced an ad-hoc financial assistance of Rs 500 crore to flood-ravaged Assam, where floods and landslides have claimed 81 lives so far. IAF air-drops food packets in Tinsukia, where 50,000 people are still marooned Floods continued to wreak havoc in Assam on Tuesday, as the Brahmaputra and its tributaries sent more areas under water, and 50,000 people were still marooned in the worst-hit Tinsukia district. The Indian Air Force (IAF) air-dropped food packets in Tinsukia, while the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) air-lifted 300 more rescuers from Kolkata to intensify rescue operations in Dhemaji, Lakhimpur and Sonitpur districts, besides Tinsukia.
With floods continuing to wreak havoc from Sadiya to Dhubri and Dhemaji to Barak Valley and reports of fresh breaches in embankments coming in, thousands of people have become homeless in the State due to the current wave of floods. In the last 24 hours, 4 people died in Dibrugarh and Barpeta districts and the total death toll has reached 14 in the State. About 3,83,792 people have been affected in 17 districts in the floods. The rescue teams from the Air Force, Army, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the district administrations have been pressed into service to rescue the marooned people.

Flood situation continues to deteriorate in the State on Monday with reports coming in of more villages being inundated by surging waters of the Brahmaputra and its tributaries in upper and lower Assam districts. Flood waters have inundated at least 100 villages in Jorhat, Dhemaji, Tinsukia, Sivasagar, Nalbari and Dibrugarh districts since Sunday. Sources said a total of nine people had died in the floods in Assam so far. Floods have affected about 19,979.15 hectares of cropland in 15 districts, affecting 38,3792 people.
Guwahati: Assam’s flood situation deteriorated on Sunday as incessant rains breached embankments inundating several villages, vast tracts of cropland and affecting nearly two lakh people. The current deluge has so far claimed eight lives in the state and nearly two lakh people have been affected, official sources said. Altogether 14 districts have been affected by the floods. The districts are Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Barpeta, Kamrup (Rural), Baksa, Sonitpur, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Nalbari, Nagaon, Morigaon and Dhubri.
