Despite the challenges in their trade, the Brihattar Uzanbazar Anusuchit Nibanuwa Matshya Byabashayi Santha has scripted a success story by dint of their hard work and indefatigable attitude towards life.
The early wave of Monsoon that caused heavy rain for the last fortnight creating flood has inflicted heavy losses on the farmers in Barpeta district. Though the damage is yet to be assessed but it is officially estimated that more than 25000 hectares of cultivation has been damaged. The major sufferers are those farmers who cultivate early ahu paddy followed by onion and cashewnut.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has expressed his gratitude to Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee for a plethora of new projects and trains her budget has offered to Assam and the NE region.
The reopening of the World Heritage Site in Danger, Manas National Park-cum-Tiger Project scheduled for today have been postponed and rescheduled that too tentatively on November 6.
The erosion by Beki river has been creating devastation in some parts of Barpeta and Baksa districts for the last few years. Severe erosion since 2004 has targeted the Barpeta Dairy Farm, among others, and almost 800 bighas of land out of 1800 bighas of land of the farm have been lost to the river till now.
A UNICEF-supported project on behaviour change communication and child development and nutrition, implemented by the North East Diocesan Social Forum (NEDSF) and visualised as a situational need, has won the confidence of different communities concentrated in three districts of the State namely Barpeta, Bongaigaon and Goalpara.
