Citing that Kerala is going through a severe power crisis due to the weak South-West monsoon, Chandy has requested the Power Minister to raise the state’s allocation of power to at least 500 MW instead of the expected 266 MW as per the Gadgil formula.

JAMMU: Concerned over regional grid failures last week, Union Power Ministry today issued fresh set of directions to eight Northern States including Jammu and Kashmir for carrying out mandatory reforms with thrust on special protection system for the power grids and automatic demand management scheme. It has also fixed time-lines for the implementation of each direction. The 12-point directions were chalked out during the meeting of Chief Ministers and representatives from various Northern States and Union Territory of Chandigarh convened by the Union Power Minister, Veerappa Moily.
Jaipur: Chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Monday assured the Centre that the state would abide by the all the regulations with regard to drawing power from the Northern Grid. The assurance came during the chief ministers’ and state power ministers’ meeting on Grid Supply Management held in Delhi, and presided over by Union power minister Veerappa Moily. Gehlot also emphasized on the state’s increased requirement of power due to a poor monsoon and the wide gap between demand and availability. He requested for an additional 500 MW of power apart from the state’s defined quota for the forthcoming rabi season, besides an urgent need to address the irrigation requirement for the kharif crops.

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki called on the Union Minister of State for Environment and Forests, Jayanti Natarajan in New Delhi on Wednesday. The Chief Minister requested the Union Minister to expedite the pending forest clearance of the Tawang Basin Hydro Power Project of NHPC, stated a release. The Chief Minister, in his meeting with Natarajan reiterated the fact that the DPR for the Tawang Project would go for cabinet clearance only after the forest clearance was given. He mentioned that NHPC was also planning to construct the tunnel from Sange to Jang, which was also getting delayed due to the pending clearance.
